Kingston, Ont. takes over taxi licensing from KATC Oct 1

City assumes driver, plateholder and broker licensing plus complaints and enforcement under a new by-law.

The City of Kingston, Ontario, is taking over taxi licensing and regulation from the Kingston Area Taxi Commission on 1 October 2026.

From that date the city licenses taxicab drivers, plateholders and brokers and runs compliance, complaints, inspections and enforcement under a new Passenger Transportation Services By-law. Brokers get expanded screening, training, oversight and reporting duties. The KATC office closed 25 September; city licensing reopened at 1211 John Counter Blvd on 5 October. Officials say services continue without interruption. TNCs remain under a separate by-law.
