Unite’s Edinburgh taxi branch wants a new taxi rank beneath North Bridge, opposite Waverley’s Market Street entrance.
Edinburgh Evening News and council papers say the current East Market Street rank sits past the Jeffrey Street junction and is hard for station leavers to see. Unite proposes about 50 metres of rank for up to seven taxis under the bridge, with the existing stance used as a feeder. Passengers would still cross Market Street but would be closer and under cover. Cllr Stephen Jenkinson’s September 2026 Transport and Environment Committee motion asked officers to assess feasibility and update via the November business bulletin. No final design or approval yet.
