Uber says driverless taxis are set for Madrid streets by the end of 2026 after Spain’s DGT authorised Level 4 testing.
Olive Press reports an initial 20 WeRide-built vehicles in high-demand areas with an onboard safety specialist, plus mapping runs before commercial service. Madrid would follow London and Zagreb as Uber robotaxi cities in Europe; Waymo is also planning Madrid tests. Uber’s Sarfraz Maredia called the region forward-looking for autonomous mobility. UK LTDA general secretary Steve McNamara dismissed robotaxis as hype and a gimmick for busy London roads. Exact test start dates were not given.
