Tewkesbury Borough Council’s taxi and private hire penalty points scheme came into force on Monday 28 September 2026 after Executive Committee approval on 2 September.
Points can be issued for minor breaches of licence conditions, remain live for three years, and vary with the seriousness of the breach. Anyone reaching 12 points in three years is referred to the Licensing Sub-Committee, which may take no action, warn, extend the live period, suspend or revoke, or take other proportionate steps. There is a right of appeal against points; suspension or revocation can be appealed to magistrates within 21 days unless public safety requires immediate effect.
The scheme covers drivers, vehicle proprietors and operators licensed by the borough and followed consultation with the trade and public.
