Stirling consults on 11.7% taxi fare rise and festive tariffs

Flag-drop proposals lift Tariff 1 to £3.90; new Christmas and New Year tariffs go to public consultation.

Stirling Council is consulting the public and the taxi trade on an approximate 11.7% rise in taxi fares, plus new festive tariffs.

An independent review by Licensed Vehicles Survey and Assessment (LVSA) underpins the proposals. The Planning and Regulation Panel has agreed to seek feedback before any decision.

Proposed rates

Flag-drop fares rounded to the nearest 10p would rise to £3.90 on Tariff 1 (from £3.50), £4.60 on Tariff 2 (from £4.10) and £6.20 on Tariff 3 (from £5.60). Distance increments would also shorten.

A new Tariff 4 would cover 6pm on 24 December to 6am on 26 December, and 6pm on 31 December to 6am on 2 January, with a £6.20 flag drop. Tariff 5 would cover groups of five or more in the same festive windows, with a £10 drop fare.

Waiting time would stay unchanged. Consultation runs to 7 October 2026 on Engage Stirling.
