Portsmouth MPs Stephen Morgan and Amanda Martin are inviting local taxi and private hire drivers to feed into national licensing reform talks.
England has 263 licensing authorities with different rules and costs. The Government is considering changes; the MPs’ survey covers inconsistencies between councils, out-of-area working, app bookings, enforcement, vehicle standards and a possible national database of licensed drivers and vehicles. Martin, on the DfT team, said she would take concerns to ministers. Morgan stressed fairness for drivers and enforceable safety for passengers.
Drivers are asked to complete a short online survey to inform parliamentary work. This is an MP engagement exercise, not a finished statute.
