NI MLA: fuel spike may make contracted taxi work unaffordable

Diane Forsythe told Stormont diesel at £2/litre could leave school and patient taxi contracts priced below costs.

DUP MLA Diane Forsythe has warned that rising fuel costs could make contracted taxi work unaffordable for some Northern Ireland operators.

Speaking in an Assembly statement on fuel prices on 21 September 2026, she said transport firms, including taxis, are often locked into rates set when fuel was cheaper. With diesel around £2 a litre, that gap could put school runs and patient appointments at risk if operators cannot sustain the work. trade reporting and DM News stress she named no operator, contract or cancelled journey — it is a warning about fixed rates versus pump prices, not a report of actual service cuts.
