Volunteer London taxi drivers with the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans took Second World War veterans to the Netherlands for Operation Market Garden’s 82nd anniversary.
The group included eight WWII veterans. Events covered the mass parachute drop at Ginkel Heath on 19 September 2026 (more than 60,000 people) and the Airborne Memorial Service at Oosterbeek Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery on 20 September. Market Garden veteran Geoff Roberts MBE, described as the only Market Garden veteran able to attend the service, rose from his wheelchair to lay a wreath and salute. Charity chair and cabbie Colin Mills drove him from home.
British drivers, carers and medics supported the trip with Dutch partners. The charity, run by volunteer licensed London taxi drivers since 1948, funds trips through donations, grants and sponsorship.
