Leeds station taxi rank to shift to Bishopgate Street in Oct

Move from Princes Square once street lifts open mid-October — six-cab rank with kerbside boarding.

Leeds City Council expects the station taxi rank to move from temporary Princes Square to Bishopgate Street in mid-October once new lifts open.

Council and DM News reports say the Sustainable Travel Gateway is due to start opening in October 2026. Balfour Beatty is installing lifts between New Station Street and Bishopgate Street — expected mid-month — which unlock the permanent rank (planned for six vehicles with shelter and kerbside boarding, larger than an earlier three-cab design). Drivers have long complained about the rear temporary setup and lost walk-up trade during multi-year works.
