The BBC spent more than £65,000 on taxis, trains and hotels that were never used over three years, Freedom of Information figures show.
The Sun reports 870 abandoned cab journeys (£14,771), 344 unused rail tickets (£19,124) and 190 hotel bookings (£31,155) with no reclaimable refunds — about £417 a week, or roughly 361 licence fees. Average unused cab last year was about £17.50. The corporation said 24-hour global news forces short-notice travel changes and that April 2026 cost controls cut non-essential trips amid wider savings and job cuts.
