Barrow taxi firm offers free rides after HMS Agamemnon launch

The company said they wanted to thank those who keep the town running, including early-morning workers.

A Barrow taxi firm will be offering FREE and discounted rides to all workers next week.

Barra Cabs in Barrow is running the scheme to celebrate the launch of the Royal Navy's submarine HMS Agamemnon from the town's Royal Port last week. The offer will run for all workers in the town from Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9, between 4am and 6am.

The company said they wanted to thank those who keep the town running, including early-morning workers in retail, hospitality, care, and the NHS. A spokesperson for Barra Cabs said: "With the launch of Agamemnon, it’s a massive moment for Barrow and something the whole town can be proud of and we want to celebrate by giving something back to the people who keep this town moving every single day."

Journeys within Barrow will be free, while trips into Barrow from Dalton, Askam, or Ulverston will be half price.

The company said: "No fancy speeches. No gimmicks. Just us giving a little something back to the people who graft day in, day out."

Pre-booking is required, and further details will be made available on the company’s Facebook page.

HMS Agamemnon took to the open water for the first time on September 24 with the 7,400-tonne, 97-metre-long attack vessel traversing BAE Systems’ shipyard's dock system to reach the Walney Channel and on into the Irish Sea.

The astute-class submarine will now undertake sea trials before joining fellow hunter-killer submarines HMS Astute, HMS Ambush, HMS Artful, HMS Audacious and HMS Anson in operational service with the Royal Navy.
